Bicyclist Hit By Car Dies

SANDY TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY - The bicyclist hit by a car in Clearfield County Thursday morning has died.

Sandy Township police released the new information Friday morning.

Dr. Albert Varacallo, of DuBois, was riding down a hill on DuBois-Rockton Road and entered the intersection as a car was turning left onto Shaffer Road. The two collided head-on, and the 52-year-old hit the windshield of the car.

Varacallo was flown to the Altoona Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Police closed the roadway for four hours while a reconstruction team completed their investigation. There is no word yet if any charges will be filed.
