STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY -- A 23-year-old Penn State student was assaulted early Tuesday morning in downtown State College.

The man was walking near the 300 block of West Fairmount Avenue just before 1:00am Tuesday morning when he was approached from behind by three people.  One man struck him in the back of the head, which knocked the victim to the ground.  All three suspects proceeded to kick the man while he was on the ground.

The three suspects stole the student's iPod and tried to take his bookbag, but were unsuccessful.

The suspects were located by police officers in the area and were positively identified by the victim.  They have been identified as 20-year-old Jamar Smack and 18-year-old Brendan Smack, both of State College.  They were both arraigned and held on $75,000 straight bail.  The third suspect was a juvenile from State College, who was forwarded to juvenile probation and is being held pending a hearing.

The victim was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center and released.
