FERGUSON TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY -- A 10 foot long Python pet snake has been reported missing from the 1400 block of Linn Street in Ferguson Township after escaping from its cage sometime between 1:30 AM Saturday morning and 9:15 AM Monday morning. The snake is described as brown and caramel colored with a patterned design. This type of snake, a constrictor, is non-venomous but may bite (as any snake would when threatened).

The snake is likely still in the area, but since it is not known what distance the snake may travel (they can travel for miles), residents of all Centre Region municipalities are advised to be on the lookout for the snake and call 9-1-1 immediately if it is observed.

Although the snake is reported as docile and is frequently handled by the owners, the snake should not be approached or contacted.  The snake will eventually be seeking a food source, and therefore any small animal could be at risk as prey. Owners of small pets should take extra precautions when walking or allowing their pets outside.

Homeowners in the area should keep garage and other unscreened doors and windows closed.
