BELLWOOD, BLAIR COUNTY - Friday night was the Northern Blair County Relay for Life. This year's ambassador shared her survivor story.
Mary Saylor’s doctor found a lump during a routine exam in 2008. She didn’t think it was a big deal because she didn't have any risk factors. She doesn't have a family history of cancer and she lives a healthy lifestyle.
But she was diagnosed with cancer, and she was overwhelmed to go through the process. And there were times when she just didn't feel like fighting. But she says there were people behind supporting her through everything. She went through chemotherapy and radiation, and finally her doctor told her she was cancer-free.
Her husband norm was with her when she brought in the torch as the Survivor Ambassador.
Local churches, groups, and businesses raised money all year for Relay for Life. The money stays in Blair County and will be used for research and patient care.
