HASTINGS, CAMBRIA COUNTY - Details on funeral arrangements for a fallen hero from Cambria County were released Wednesday morning.

The public, friends and family can pay their respects to Marine Sgt. Derek Shanfield Friday. The viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Both will be held at the Hastings Memorial building.

Shanfield will be buried afterward at Union Cemetery, with military rites by the U.S. Marine Corps and local veterans' organizations. Easly Funeral Home in Hastings is handling the arrangements.

Also Wednesday, Gov. Ed Rendell ordered flags in Harrisburg and Cambria County to be flown at half-staff through Friday in honor of Shanfield.

The 22-year-old was killed in the line of duty June 8 in Afghanistan while serving as part of "Operation Enduring Freedom." The Hastings native graduated from Cambria Heights High School and joined the Marines in 2005.
