WESTERN NEW YORK - New York authorities said Sunday Steven Rebert is a person of interest in the murders of 2 men, Bill Fickel and Kevin Smith.

Rebert, the 45 year old man arrested in the killings of Brockway area couple James and Victoria Shugar, previously lived within a mile of both Fickel and Smith.

Fickel was shot and killed with a .3030 rifle in 2005 when he went outside of his western New York home to see who pulled in his driveway.  The sheriff in Genesee County, New York said Rebert and Fickel knew each other.  Smith was discovered shot inside his home in 2007.

Rebert grew up in New York and police said he moved to Pennsylvania about 5 years ago.  He was an independent contractor for Adelphia cable.
