The F.D.A.  has approved a new hearing aid that's invisible to the eye.  Unlike conventional hearing aids it doesn't have microphones or speakers to amplify sound.A surgeon implants a sound processor  under the skin in the skull, behind the ear with two leads extending to the middle ear.

The system uses the body's natural anatomy to improve hearing. Instead of   magnifying sounds, the device  processes and filters sounds then transmits  them  to the inner ear, using the ear drum as a natural  microphone.

People who have lost their hearing from aging, noise, viruses or even hereditary reasons could benefit from the device.
