Man Convicted in Police Shoot-Out Sentenced

HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY - A Philadelphia-area man convicted of trying to kill one police officer and assaulting 3 of them will spend 35 1/2 to 71 years in prison.  John Ray was sentenced Friday.  In November of 2008,  Altoona police approached the van Ray was a passenger in.  When they tried to pat him down, police said he ran off and opened fire.  Police returned fire, hitting the 37 year old 4 times.  None of the 3 officers was shot.  Ray is now confined to a wheelchair.
