SNYDER TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY - Investigators said the brakes on a truck that was being driven by a local firefighter failed after excessive use causing him to crash.

Rex Walters, 49, was killed in the crash that happened on April 24th along Route 453 in Snyder Township, Blair County.

Walters was driving on Route 453, when police said his brakes failed.  He crashed into a telephone pole and was killed.

Police said the brakes went out because of excessive wear from driving on the Janesville Pike mountain grade.

Police inspection noted there was no defects, deficiencies or violations associated with the 2005 Kenworth owned by Curry Supply Co, Curryville, PA.

Walters was a volunteer with the Blue Knob Fire Department for more than 20 years.
