PITTSBURGH - Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Hanger is raising some red flags about increased gas drilling in the state's Marcellus shale.

In a speech Monday to the Marcellus Shale Policy Conference at Duquesne University, Hanger outlined a laundry list of tasks that should be completed to protect the state's environmental resources.

According to Hanger, Pennsylvania needs tougher regulations for gas drilling, a severance tax on extracted gas and independent enforcement.
