Sex Ed Bill Passes House Committee

By: Kevin Valentine
Updated: April 30, 2010

HARRISBURG - Students across Pennsylvania could soon receive comprehensive sex education.

For the first time ever, the full House will review a sex education bill that would require schools to teach students about pregnancy prevention and contraception.

A House committee this week passed the Healthy Youth Act, which would add comprehensive sex ed to abstinence-only instruction.

Supporters say oftentimes children may not receive the "birds and the bees" talk from mom and dad and are therefore ill equipped and uninformed when it comes to making serious decisions regarding sex.
