Father Patrick Foley is a Franciscan Friar. Saint Francis is the patron saint of ecology. So this project is important to them. They want to pass on the tradition of caring for creation to the community.
This year they have a quarter acre plot at the community gardens where people can volunteer a few hours a week and get a share of the produce. But they're thinking bigger for next year. They want to turn Care for Creation into Community Supported Agriculture. People can pay about 25 dollars a week and get a large box of vegetable each week.
John Trimble has been a share holder in other C. S. A.’s in the past. He says it's important to know where your food comes from and know the farmers who grow it, and then you know it’s fresh and nutritious. He grows his own vegetables now. But he thinks care for creation will have plenty of people that want to join.
Care for creation is hosting nine events through the growing season to teach people about everything from organic gardening to bee keeping. The first event is May 22nd at 11:00, The Friars will be blessing the land and any seeds people would like to have blessed.
