(Pittsburgh, PA) - Steelers fans will have to get used to not seeing Ben Roethlisberger in a uniform for a while as the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell announced a six game suspension which goes into effect immediately.

According to the NFL, the suspension is for six games without pay and could be reduced to four games based on a behavioral evaluation. Until that evaluation, Roethlisberger cannot participate in any team activites. The suspension could cost Roethlisberger over $3 million in salary.

Roethlisberger received a letter from the league Wednesday in which Goodell  expressed his disappointment in the quarterback's recent actions and described them as a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.
