Energy Grants Go to Small Businesses

HARRISBURG -  More than two hundred small businesses in Pennsylvania, including several in this region,  will be getting some financial help from the state to make them more energy efficient.
Governor Ed Rendell has announced  the distribution of more than $1 million in Small Business Advantage Grants.  Under the program, small businesses which have fewer than 100 employees  are elligible for grants of up to $7,500 dollars.     The funding is to be used  to implement projects that will help the businesses reduce their energy costs by at least 20 percent.   Examples of elligible projects include HVAC  and boiler upgrades, installing high efficiency lighting, and improving their recycling programs.  State officials say they expect the businesses to save nearly $2 million dollars in energy costs each year because of the grants offered through the Department of Environmental protection.
