Oliver Township, Jefferson County--- Police say 55-year old Donald Wolfe of Brookville was arrested for public drunkeness after witnesses reportedly saw him trying to resuscitate a dead opossum along side of a highway.

It happened Thursday on Route 36 in Oliver Township.  According to police, several witnesses saw Wolfe giving the dead animal mouth to mouth.

Wolfe was arrested for public drunkenness but his story of trying to save the opossum has made international news, all the way to Australia.

People who live in the small community of Brookville say they are glad they made the news, but it’s not the headline they were hoping for.

“Its disgusting who resuscitates road kill?  This doesn't make sense,” said Jennifer Radel of Brookville.

“Considering Brookville is a small town, it’s nice to get on the news but I think it would be better if it wasn't for someone trying to save a opossum,” said Rebecca Kennedy.
