Grant Funds Help Home Owners Make Repairs

Updated: March 24, 2010

DUBOIS---Central Pennsylvania Community Action will be helping some home owners in DuBois with some needed repairs.

They received a $350,000 grant through the Department of Economic Development, and they expect that money to rehabilitate about 12 houses.

"Windows, roofing, electrical work, foudation work and so forth, to get these homes up to code, to eliminate some of the blight in the area, and to just contribute back to the community to keep the home values up," said Tia Lansberry, Planning Specialist at Community Action.

She sais they've focused the project on DuBois because the median income there is lower than surrounding communities.

Funds will be allocated based in HUD Section 8 housing standards.

Community Action expects to start work on the homes as soon as the funds from the grant come in.
