Motor Carrier Changes

By: Ben Manning
Updated: March 22, 2010
ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Some changes are on the way for Pennsylvania when it comes to motor carriers.

Pennsylvania is one of nearly 25 states that had to change their motor carrier regulations by the end of the month.

Now, people younger than 18 will not be able to drive certain truck-trailer combinations. If a truck trailer farm vehicle weighs more than 17,000 pounds, only adults will be able to drive them on public roads.

Transportation officials worked with agriculture officials to make sure the new rules didn't hurt business.

The state also expanded the harvest season to be a full twelve months.  Officials say that will help local farmers compete in the national and global market.
