STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY - Family, Friends and colleagues are mourning the loss of long-time defense attorney Ed Blanarik, Jr.

Blanarik died at the hospital of an apparent heart attack Wednesday night after shoveling snow outside his home.

Blanarik often represented defendants in high profile court cases.  He was part of the team that defended Miguel Padilla in Blair County, a man sentenced to death for killing three people.  He also was legal counsel for Mirinda Boob, who was convicted of conspiring with a man to kill her husband.

Blanarik was a Penn State Graduate and married to Deborah Lux, a public defender in Centre County.  He was 64 years old.
