CLEARFIELD COUNTY - Sled riding, hitting the slopes, hiking down the trails winter weather acitivites can be fun, but also dangerous.
In February 2012, Leslie Haas died when he fell through the ice in the Ridgway Resevoir while fishing.
In January 2010, Dr. Joshua Casteel died in a snowmobile accident in Lawrence Township.
Casteel's family friend and snowmobile safety instructor Ted Semetkosky has tips.
For one he says never to go snowmobiling alone, two, follow the same rules you would on the road as in, do not drive drunk, do not follow too closely, check the weather and do not drive if it is snowing heavily. Plus, always check your equipment and carry extra gear.
Physician Assistant at Clearfield Hospital, DJ Clark says, so far this year they have not seen many accidents related to winter activities, but they have had elderly people come in after falling.
He says they have slipped while trying to shovel their own driveways and he has seen many lacerations.
His advice, let someone else clear your snow.
