The incident happened in the offices at Turkeyfoot School District back on December 14, 2012, the same day as the Newtown, Connecticut deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
"After consulting with the District Attorney we felt charges were appropriate," said Corporal William Link, Somerset State Police. "I don't believe at the time of this incident he was aware of anything else going on in the country at that time."
Link also stated that the 41- year old was at the school to pick up a student; he was licensed to carry a firearm at the time and did not threaten to commit any criminal acts or to cause alarm. The gun was spotted on him by an employee who notified authorities according to the press release.
"Mr. King did carry his gun on a regular basis," said Link. "However, there are signs posted on the school grounds guns are not permitted."
King was charged with a misdemeanor and summary offense. The Somerset County Sheriff did revoke his right to carry a gun. King has the legal right to appeal that decision.
