The Met Office

The Met Office was founded in 1854 as part of the Board of Trade as a service to mariners. This is unlike the National Weather Service in that the Weather Bureau (its predecessor) started as part of the War Department. Like the National Weather Service, the Met Office is now in the commercial sector working within the Department of Business Innovation and Skills.
