STAR Scholarship Founders Talk Loyalty

By: Jim Madalinsky
Updated: December 6, 2012

Rosalind and Phil Sky are both big Penn State supporters. In fact, their first date was attending a Pitt-Penn State football game.

Now they're the founders of a scholarship meant to reward those who stuck around when times got tough.

"I was inspired by the loyalty of mainly this 2012 team and how Coach O'Brien has stood by through the worst of times," Rosalind Sky says.

With the help of some friends the Sky's launched the STAR Scholarship, which stands for "Special Team, Always Remember," a $50,000 endowment in honor of the 2012 team.

"It's not about us at all. We want it to be about people who feel the way that we do and are concerned about the five seniors and the loyalty of the football team," Sky says.

In fact it was a newspaper article profiling senior Stephon Morris that gave the Sky's the idea.

Originally the donation was supposed to be anonymous, but now that their names have come out, the Sky's are urging others to get involved.

"They say bad things happen to people who do nothing, so we felt we should step up to the plate," Phil Sky says.

"It's a special place and i know the people that are here feel special about not only the football team but Penn State," Rosalind Sky says.
