Fatal Fire Update

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - A young child died when fire swept though an Altoona duplex early Thursday morning.  The fast moving flames gutted the residential building in the one hundred block of South 2nd Street just before 6:30 in the morning.

A mother was forced from the burning building with her daughter but was unable to back inside to rescue her young son according to witnesses extensive damage that was done to the duplex   in East End of Altoona.

This was a fatal fire that moved fast and had neighbors scrambling.   Several of them reported calling 9-1-1 early   as flames ripped though this duplex.
          
The owner of the building says a family of four lived on the side of the duplex where the fire started.  The other side was occupied by two college students who were   barely able to get out safely.
        
 The child who died and the two family members sent to the hospital as a result of the fire have not yet been identified by the authorities. An extensive investigation is underway to try and determine the cause of this fatal fire.
