PITTSBURGH - A two-year-old boy died Sunday after he fell into a pen for African painted dogs at the Pittsburgh Zoo and the animals attacked.

Zoo officials say the boy fell off an observation deck 14 feet above the exhibit.  The animals got aggressive before zookeepers could scare them away.

Police said an officer did have to shoot and kill one of the dogs. There was nothing they could do for the boy.

The zoo is closed, and officials are investigating. African painted dogs are an endangered species.

I totally agree. How can the zoo be at fault for this accident? It is parental neglect. Common sense would say that is dangerous and why would you put your two year old in that kind of situation. Such a sad situation, but not at all the zoo's fault.

Come on now.....don't put blame on the zoo or the animals. Who in their right mind would stand a 2 year old up on a railing that overlooks an 11 foot fall????? Especially when there are wild animals below you. Severe lack in parenting judgement here. Nothing less, nothing more.

This is absolutely asinine. Someone should go to prison for this. Start with the parents, and then the zoo manager. Why isn't there a net or railing to prevent something like this from happening?
