SOUTH HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, BEDFORD COUNTY -  Some  Bedford County land-owners are concerned about the effects of a  natural gas  drilling project in their community.
A lot of  attention currently being given to the development of natural gas resources in Western Pennsylvania,
In  part of South Hampton Township in Southern  Bedford County, the issue is currently hitting close to home.
The  company in charge  the exploratory drilling  work for a  natural gas project already has its equipment  out in  some farm fields  preparing for  seismic testing.   All of this work concerns  plenty of  people who live in  the area.
The issue came to a head earlier this month when the Columbia Gas went to federal court to confirm its right to  act on a long standing lease.   The company wants to  do extensive seismic testing that includes drilling and blasting to find out what land is suitable for part of its  Artemas Gas Storage field  project.   Now that the gas company  is moving ahead with its  land testing work, the concern of people who live in the area is growing. One of their biggest worries is what will happen to to their  springs or well water supplies when the natural gas project moves ahead.
The battle  over natural gas drilling is far from over according to some of the people who live  along Ragged Mountain Road.  They say  the possible environmental damage and increased noise and truck traffic are just a couple of their on-going concerns.
