This violent crash took place just before 6 late Saturday afternoon. While there is now a temporary replacement stop sign in place, that was not the case at the time of the accident. The weekend accident involved a driver pulling out into busy cross traffic but authorities say that driver was not at fault. That's because the collision that sent a car careening into Steve-O's pizza restaurant on old state route 22 just West of Duncansville occurred because of a missing stop sign.
When police responded to the crash, that the investigating officer discovered the stop sign on Mill Road, across the street from the pizza shop, been knocked down an the earlier unreported collision.
That failure to notify authorities of the missing stop sign helped create the danger that lead to this crash. Members of the Allegheny Township Police Department say they are convinced this weekend crash could have been prevented if they had been notified of the missing stop sign sooner. Penn-DOT and township officials are both on call to repair traffic safety signals as soon as they are notified of a problem.
