PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- Mellon Arena may go out with a bang, or at least a view of Pittsburgh's skyline.
The "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette" reports officials are considering possibly opening the retractable roof one last time before shutting down the 48-year-old facility this summer.
Mellon Arena/SMG general manager Jay Roberts told the paper there are some obstacles to possibly opening the roof, including the fact that the roof may not actually be able to open. The last time it opened was in 2001 and it only opened a little then.
The arena will be closed as the Consol Energy Center, which is being constructed across Centre Avenue, is supposed to open in August.
