ANTIS TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY - Plans to build a Walmart super center in Northern Blair County have been in the works for several years. But now the Company has put the Pinecroft property up for sale and appears to be abandoning the investment already made in the project.
When Walmart comes to a community, the development always means a lot of changes. That's why there are some who are disappointed, and others who are pleased by the Company's change of direction on the Pinecroft project. The undeveloped 150 acre parcel of land at the intersection of State Route 220 and Sabbath Rest Road in Antis Township was acquired by Walmart several years ago for more than $1.5 million. That cleared the way for the long commercial development and permitting process to get underway.
Now that Walmart is abandoned the project, several people interested in attracting jobs and economic activity are disappointed by the development. But other community activists who were concerned about traffic, blasting and how the Walmart could affect the environment are pleased with the news that this Country's largest retailer is no longer interested in the Antic Township property. Walmart Corporate officials did not respond to a request for comment on the development.
