ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY -  An  an annual effort to improve the appearance of some Altoona  city streets is underway.  A neighborhood revitalization project calls for planting up to  100 new shade trees along some city streets.
About half of those trees will be planted along 7th  and 8th  Streets in the City.
The  placement of the new trees has been determined by the Altoona Planning Department and the City's Shade Tree Commission.
The goal is to put in healthy new trees that are of a size and variety that  will not cause problems  on  the streets where they are planted.
A couple of private contractors including Hawk's Landscaping and Charlie's Tree Service have been hired to take care of  clearing away the damaged trees and planting the new ones  over the next several weeks.
