Cat Adoption Fees Reduced

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY - A higher pet population will mean lower prices for some people interested in adopting a cat.
The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society wants to increase the number of people taking home a cat so they've lowered the cost of adopting a feline companion.
Humane society employees are already anticipating the usual spring time increase in the number of cats and kittens that will be brought into the shelter. Now they are doing what they can to make it a little easier for some of those cats to find new homes. Most of the cages in the cat room of the Blair County shelter are already full. With more cats sure to be dropped off as the weather gets warmer, changes are being made to make it a little less expensive for people looking to adopt a cat or kitten.
People responsible say the change is being made in response to public pressure. The cost of taking home one of the cats has been cut from $50 to $30. And that includes the cost of the vaccinations and de-worming the cat or kitten would need during its first year.
The new pet owner is still responsible for the $90 cost of spaying or neutering the cat if that is required.
But the actual adoption fee has been cut by 40%.
Humane society workers hope the change will help them accomplish their goal of finding homes for all the cats turned over to them for care and adoption. A one year membership to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society is also included in the new lower cost of adopting a cat.
Prices for adopting dogs has not been reduced because those animals can require some more expensive medical care before they are ready to go home with their new families.
