PSU Student Hit By Police Cruiser

STATE COLLEGE - The State College Police Department reported that a 21 year old Penn State student was struck by a police cruiser that was being driven by a police sergeant at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday.

The crash happened on the 400 block of East Beaver Ave. 

In press release, the police identified the student as Kevin Ignatuk, 21, 27 Fox Brook Ln., Thornton, PA.  Police said that according to witnesses, Ignatuk stepped from the sidewalk in front of the marked SUV police vehicle in front of 456 E. Beaver Ave.

A police officer was driving the SUV.  Police said the driver was not responding to a call.  They said the driver was on routine patrol and did have the headlights on.

 Ignatuk was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and then flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

The State College Police Sergeant was the only person in the vehicle and was uninjured.

Police said that they talked to several witnesses at the scene.  

The State Police in Rockview are handling this investigation.
