JOHNSTOWN - A local defense contracting firm has laid off dozens of employees.

DRS Technologies laid off about 70 people from their Johnstown location.

The company employs a total of 700 people.

Vice President and General Manager Patrick Marion said in a released statement on Wednesday, "The reduction reflects the organization's strong desrire to meet customer's expectations to be efficient in an increasingly competitive environment."

Marion said the company is still committed to the area.  DRS Technologies recently signed a five year lease extension for its Johnstown facility.
