HERSHEY, PA - Two late mid-state scientists were honored Thursday for contributing to the cervical cancer vaccine.

Doctors John Kreider and Mary Howett have passed away since the vaccine, known as Gardasil, entered the market four-years ago.

The doctors' families attended a tribute ceremony in their stead at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where a permanent marker was unveiled in their honor.

Kreider and Howett began working on the vaccine back in the 1980s.
