ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - A series of summer jazz concerts will return to downtown Altoona in just a few months.

Details of the Friday evening performances were announced Monday morning by the sponsoring organization.

The outdoor concerts will be held at the Downtown Heritage Plaza on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of June, July, and August.

Organizers said they expect the jazz performers will  draw some big crowds. "The more community support we can generate, the better we are gonna be," said Bob Scholl. "Typically, we average about 800 to 1,000 people for the concerts. We would certainly like to continue to see that number grow. Gives us an opportunity to support the Altoona Area Public Library as well as the Blair County Arts Foundation, which benefit from these concerts."

Scholl said because people attending the concerts will be able to walk up and down a closed Eleventh Avenue, the performances will feel like a street festival.

This year's concerts will be sponsored by the Hippo-Fleming Law Firm in downtown Altoona.
