Gov. Rendell Defends Federal Healthcare Overhaul

By: Amy Mearkle
Updated: April 9, 2010

HARRISBURG, PENNSLVANIA  --  Governor Rendell told Pennsylvania residents if they're not a fan of the National Health Care Act, vote for lawmakers who promise to modify it.

The governor said efforts to completely repeal the effort by suing the federal government are "frivolous."

Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett is one of more than a dozen states' attorneys general to file a suit claiming the overhaul is unconstitutional by forcing nearly every American to get health insurance.

Rendell believes the suit is a waste of taxpayer money and defended the plan for expanding coverage to 140,000 state residents.  However, the governor said if you don't like it, elect candidates who pledge to amend it.
