AARONSBURG, CENTRE COUNTY - The Foltz family home burned to the ground on Monday night. No one was injured because the owners were vacationing in New Mexico, but their two sons had to helplessly watch the fire destroy their parents' home.
"It's just one of those things you don't believe it would happen to you," Brandon Foltz said as he was standing next to his former house, which now is a giant pile of charred rubble.
The house along Penns Valley Rd. started on fire at about 9:00 p.m. Monday night. Dozens of firefighters from several departments responded to the scene, but power lines and propane tanks initially made it unsafe for the firefighters. The home was destroyed.
"I just praise the firemen," said Aaron Foltz, "They had to haul water. They had to call tankers from everywhere. I just praise them guys...they tried their best."
A State Police Fire Marshal was careening the debris and investigating the cause on Tuesday. He hasn't made an official ruling on how it started, but initial reports indicate that it started in the kitchen.
