Seventeen plus-sized gowns went missing. The theft was discovered when a Community Action employee went to the storage area to get some dresses to use for a school fashion show.
The dresses are stored in the basement of the Dimeling building in downtown Clearfield, but CPCA Planning Specialist Tia Lansberry said without knowing when the dresses disappeared, it will be difficult to track them down.
“All the residents have their designated areas down there for their own storage. Community Action just uses a portion in the back, so it was accessible to almost anyone, and it was in an area that probably no one would notice if things were missing,” Lansberry said.
She said since the Prom Closet program doesn’t get a lot of plus-sized donations, it will be especially difficult to replace them.
“Unfortunately we don’t get donations of those sizes as regularly as we do the average 6, 8, 10 sized dresses, so the selection for the girls has never been very extended, usually only a few for them to choose from. So that’s going to hurt the program this year,” Lansberry said.
If you have any information on the missing dresses, or if you’d like to donate dresses, accessories, or money to the Prom Closet program, call the Community Action office at (814)765-1551, or visit their web site at www.cacaa.net .
