Area Horse Euthanized After Being Neglected

By: Megan Gilliland
Updated: July 3, 2007
A Bedford County horse is euthanized today, after being severely neglected. Back in May, the Bedford County Humane Society found six Palamino horses in desperate need of foot care, and covered in rain rot, a very painful fungal condition caused by neglect. One of those horses was put down immediately. Four others are recovering in a Berks County horse rescue home, but Skeeter was unable to be transported because of her poor condition. For weeks, community members donated money to the Bedford County Humane Society, helping to pay the Vet bills. Unfortunately the pain got worse, and the Vet had to put Skeeter down Tuesday afternoon. 28-year old Lacie Turner of Schellsburg was charged in this case, with two counts of animal cruelty, of which she pleaded guilty.
