SNYDER TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY - Scott Borgess knows tragedy. The 20 year old was the passenger in a car that crashed and killed his older sister 4 years ago. Last month his home burned to the ground while his cat Marley was inside.
"Her eyebrows up here were completely burned, the tips of her ears was burned off and her paws were burned severely and smelled real bad and leaking fluid out," Borgess said.
Borgess believes the 2 1/2 year old black cat walked through fire to get out a window. Her paws are wrapped in casts, her ears are singed.
"It's costing me 152 dollars every 3 days to take her to the vet," Borgess said.
The young restaurant worker is getting help. Countryside Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit, is picking up the tab through it's paws and hoof rescue. The bill is nearly $1,500.
"To a family its priceless. A lot of pets are like people's children now and you cant put a price on a life," Alysia Tozer of Countryside Animal Sanctuary said.
The cat has had 3 surgeries so far. No one has been arrested for the arson.
