Child Safety Seat Study

By: Charlotte Ames
Updated: May 30, 2008
Child safety seats are at the "center" of a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. It suggests that placing the safety seats in the center of the back seat could cut infants' and toddlers' injury risks by nearly half.

The researchers examined car crash data from 16 U.S. states. They found that children younger than three-years-old were 43% less likely to be injured, when their seat was fastened in the center of the back seat , rather than one of the side seats.

Altoona Regional Health System and Safe Kids Blair County will conduct a free child safety seat check on June 13th at the Hospital. You can make an appointment by calling 889-7802.
