Updated: February 22, 2013

If Washington lawmakers can't reach an agreement, forced federal spending cuts will go into effect on March 1st.

The army estimates the budget the cuts, known as sequestration, will affect more than 300,000 jobs nationwide with Pennsylvania among the hardest hit states.

A spokesman for the PA National Guard said about 650 federally-funded Pennsylvania Army National Guard employees at Fort Indiantown Gap are expected to face the chop should the military cuts go through.  In total about 900 are facing furloughs across the state.
