The State Health Department says the flu is still widespread across Pennsylvania. The number of people going to the  emergency room or doctors' office with symptoms remains higher than normal. But the number of patients in the hospital with flu dropped significantly last week.

The figures show, however, that the proportion of elderly flu patients has increased. They make up 22-percent of all reported flu cases, but nearly 70-percent of people in the hospital with flu are over 65.

In our region, Blair and Centre Counties report the largest number of flu cases.
