Obviously when you go to a hospital, you're not there for the food. And that's a good thing, because hospitals aren't known for offering  a fine dining experience. But a medical center in our region may be one of the exceptions.

At Mount Nittany Medical Center, Executive Chef Gary Glenn likes to mix it up.
He designs meals you don't usually see in a hospital.

Visitors and employees can dine on everything from black bean chili to Peruvian grilled chicken thighs   Most meals for patients don't look like your usual  cafeteria-style fare, either

A popular entree includes pan-seared salmon, fresh asparagus,  a wild rice blend, a fresh tossed salad, fresh fruits, and a no-sugar vanilla bean cheesecake.

Chef Glenn says he and his team make  make 90-percent of their meals from scratch and use all organic produce.

The menu also includes healthy versions of comfort food like meatloaf and macaroni and cheese.

Mt Nittany says independent patient surveys regularly give the food top rankings. Also the hospital's won a national first place award for its food service.

You can even try out some of Chef Glenn's recipes at home.
