Fewer Hospital-Related Infections in Pa

By: Charlotte Ames
Updated: December 12, 2012
A new report suggests you're increasingly less likely to get an infection while being treated at a Pennsylvania hospital.

The State Health Department says the report shows a steady decline in the number of infections overall, as well as in the incidence of infections associated with catheters, IVs and surgical procedures. According to the report, the total  number of infections decreased three percent in the last two years.

The 2011 Report on the Occurrence and Patterns of Health Care-Associated Infections (HAIs) is the fourth to be released by the Pennsylvania Department of Health since the passage of Act 52 in 2007.  It contains infection reports from hospitals throughout the state.
