A Frosty Friday

It is unseasonably cold out Friday night, and in State College, you need to cover up, whether you're out walking around, or rooted in the ground.

Josh Crafts and Stephen Maloney are out celebrating Maloney's birthday. In 20 degree weather. In shorts. Maloney says the weather doesn't phase him.

"If I was freezing then I'd probably put on some pants, but it's not so it's not affecting me..."

Crafts says he's got his own type of insulation.

"I got pretty hairy legs, so im pretty much already wearing pants, so I'm comfortable right now"

Sean Houts isn't a college student anymore, he says there aren't a lot of reasons to be getting ice cream when it's below freezing.

"Well, not really, except my wife's going to be freezing and it's her birthday, so I got to keep her warm at home..."

While the weather may just mean a change of plans for many, some things don't have a choice in being outside Eric Walker manages the Home Depot in State College, he says a night left out in the cold, could kill certain types of plants.

"The annuals will probably dry up, and go dormant immediately. The perennials, if you have any flowers on them, you'll definitely lose them..."

Walker says folks should cover up their plants with a burlap or fabric sack. Even using a box or a pot should work if you're in a jam.  However he says you shouldn't use plastic.

"Sometimes the plastic can burn the plants once those temperatures come back up to speed the next day."

Houts says there's only one thing he loves to do when it gets this chilly.

"Go to football games..."
