Autism Study at U.P.M.C.

By: Charlotte Ames
Updated: November 26, 2007
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center want to see whether a popular antidepressant can relieve repetitive behaviors and other symptoms associated with autistic conditions. They're looking for both children from five to 17 with autism and or symptoms of autistic spectrum disorder for a study of fluoxetine, also known as Prozac.

It's not approved to treat autism. The study will require nine visits and participants will be compensated for their time. It will take place at the John Merck Child Outpatient Clinic and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of U.P.M.C.

For more information about the study, call Sarah McAuliffe-Bellin at (412) 235-5447.
