Flaxseed Stunts Prostate Tumors

By: Charlotte Ames
Updated: June 5, 2007
An edible seed that some people take as a supplement may help fight prostate cancer. Researchers at Duke University Medical Center gave 30 grams of ground flaxseed to some men with prostate cancer for 30 days before they were scheduled to have surgery.

The scientists discovered that the men who received flaxseed had the slowest rate of tumor growth. Researchers plan to test the effectiveness of flaxseed supplements in patients with recurrent prostate cancer and ultimately to study its role in preventing the disease.
