Penn State UPark Open on Tuesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY -- Based on the current pattern of the storm, classes and activities are expected to resume as normal on Penn State's University Park campus Tuesday. Forecasters predict that winds from what is now post-tropical cyclone Sandy will peak overnight from Monday, Oct. 29, to Tuesday, Oct. 30, and that rainfall and wind will diminish significantly in the Centre Region by 6 a.m. Tuesday. Employees whose shifts begin after 6 a.m. should plan to report as scheduled. The University community should visit http://live.psu.edu/ as early as possible on Tuesday to see if there have been any changes in this decision to resume activities.

At this time, weather forecasts from both the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration indicate that winds overnight in the Centre Region may be strong but will drop to 20 mph by Tuesday morning. Additional rainfall is predicted to be just two inches from Monday night through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Students, faculty and staff across the Commonwealth should continue to monitor the situation to ensure they have the most up-to-date forecast for their area; personal safety always should be the first consideration when considering travel, either on foot or in an automobile. The latest weather information is available at http://www.weather.gov/philadelphia (eastern Pennsylvania), http://www.weather.gov/statecollege (central Pennsylvania) and http://www.weather.gov/pittsburgh (western Pennsylvania).

For campuses outside University Park, specific information about shelter, food and water, in addition to cancellation and delay bulletins, will be posted on individual campus websites.
Anyone who notices any damage to University facilities should report it to the Office of Physical plant on their campus. At University Park, the number to report damage is 814-865-4731.
