For young women battling cancer, the treatment that saves their lives could keep them from having children. Some doctors recommend egg freezing for young women battling cancer because chemotherapy can lead to infertility.

Egg freezing costs thousands of dollars and insurance companies don't usually cover the treatment because it's been considered experimental. But this week, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine announced egg freezing is no longer be considered experimental.
Experts hope that'll make the costs more manageable for young women.

Although, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine is lifting the experimental label on egg freezing, doctors say the technique is best for women having urgent fertility issues or for those about to be treated for cancer.
