More Than a Fourth of PA Residents Obese

A new government study finds that more than a fourth of Pennsylvanians are obese, but at least that's better than the national average. According to the report from the Centers for Disease Control, 35.7% of Americans are obese, compared to 28.6% of Pennsylvania residents.
The problem's most prevalent in the south and Mississippi tops the scales with an obesity rate of nearly 36 percent. Colorado has the nation's lowest rate at 21 percent.
Obesity skyrocketed between 1990 and 2010. In 1995, about 16-percent of Pennsylvanians were obese. The CDC estimates medical costs associated with obesity are about $150 billion.
